Hey, I’m Gaby.
I write speculative and sci-fi fiction that’s somewhere between literary and unhinged
Oh, have I got a story to tell you…
Where it all started
My writing life kicked off a few years ago, when I started penning short stories and the draft of an (unfortunately, doomed) novel.
Around this time, driven by the desire for an adventure and a big story of my own, I quit my corporate job in London, moved out of my flat, sold my stuff, and said goodbye to my friends and family.
I went backpacking around Central America and Asia — ready to explore the world and “find myself”. Well, I actually did in the end! I’m a fiction writer, not a travel writer, though, so I won’t bore you with those particular details .
Where I am now
I'm currently working on a sci-fi novel called Paper in a God’s Hands while doing a remote Master’s in Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow.
I live on sunny Curacao with my partner. He’s a marine biologist working on the island’s coral reefs (lots of writing inspiration there! Nature is freaky.)
Part-time, I’m a freelance copywriter, taking on select projects, especially for brands with something interesting to say, that want to do good in the world. If you’re here for copywriting: hi!
My short fiction has won the Autumn 2024 Writing Battle and been published in Metaphorosis and Sci-Fi Shorts.

The Library of Time
The phrase “A kilogram of time, please,” has been bouncing around in my head for ages. No idea where it came from, but I loved it as a basis for a fantasy story - exploring what it would be like to commodify something impossible to contain, like time.

The Bookseller of Mars
“The Bookseller of Mars” was inspired by a daydream about what would happen if someone creative and totally unequipped for the apocalypse managed to get herself onto a survivor spaceship heading to Mars.

Bits and bobs from my writing…
The Anatomy of Reality
“when i close my eyes and go back to the very start of it all, i can taste the beginning of the universe. it tastes like steel wool. it tastes like static, sour on my tongue.”
The Mars Express
“Ahead, the metal doors were slowly sliding shut, and we raced – like we used to race in our stupid school uniforms across the fields behind our house, hearts hammering, jaws slack, running like our lives depended on it. The red future just a few steps away.”
Infinite Clay
“A historian, that’s what I’d call myself. Skunks and Tetanus and Riker can laugh all they want. I don’t give a shit about their malnourished opinions and there aren’t any other souls left to weigh in on the matter.”
The Next Place Along
“In the forest, time took off its mask. Rot eagerly did its luscious work while shoots and roots grew unashamedly. I nursed my baby in the nook of a tree, wet moss leeching into my jeans.”
